During the holiday seasons, many of us get ready to travel and spend time with our families. We often forget about the people who don’t celebrate the holiday season the same way we do. Volunteering and helping others celebrate can be just as rewarding to your family as well. Here are ways that you can give back:

  • Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen. Soup kitchens need volunteers to collect food, set up service areas, help seat people, make deliveries, cook and many more tasks. You can search for local soup kitchens in your area to volunteer at, even if it’s only for a couple of hours.
  • Serve a meal at a Homeless Shelter. Homeless shelters also need volunteers to help prepare and serve meals for those without a home.
  • Deliver meals to people in need. Meals on Wheels™ programs help deliver food to people in need.
  • Be a part of a fundraiser. Your local area Food Pantry can benefit from your fundraising help.
  • Volunteer at a Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is very busy with the holiday season and can benefit from your help.
  • Volunteer at a nursing/assisted living home. The eldery may be lonely around the holiday, especially if they don’t have family near-by. You can volunteer to help with decorating to serving the Thanksgiving meal.
  • Invite others to join your family. If you know of a neighbor or friend from work that will be alone, invite them to join your family for dinner or your holiday celebration.
  • Take dishes to public service people. For those who work in a police and fire department, the holidays are just another working day. Take a few dishes to the local fire and police departments for the people on duty that day.

Please consider volunteering and giving back to your local community.
