Happy Biking Month in May! Did you know that Wisconsin ranks 3rd in the nation for its thousands of miles of on-and off-road bike trails and scenic paths? Enjoy this active and healthy holiday month by dusting off your bike and exploring some of these trails.
Glacier Hills County Park – Hubertus. Just a short drive north of Milwaukee, you will run into the Glacier Hills County Park which sits on 140 acres of pristine moraine formed by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. The park features Friess Lake and offers prairie landscape, forested trails and picturesque views of Holy Hill.
Blackhawk Memorial County Park – Argyle. Explore 120 acres that offers camping sites, hiking/biking trails and canoeing opportunities, this unique park may be the best-kept secret in the state. If you approach it along Highway 81 east of Argyle, you won’t even find a sign for the park! It’s rual, off-the-beaten path, is a hidden gem that offers lots of scenic beauty including the nearby Sugar River State Trail, Pecatonica Trail and Cheese Country Recreation Trail.
Dane County Parks – Madison. Madison holds the distinct honor of being one of only 16 cities in the county to be awarded a gold shield by the League of American Bicyclists. Named the most bike-friendly city in the state, Madison offers dozens of biking county parks including Lake Farm Park, Badger Prairie Park and CamRock Park, which features a single-track mountain bike trail. You can also find the paved Capital City State Trail, which spans 17 miles and links the Military Ridge State Trail and the Glacial Drumlin State Trail.
Old Plank Road Trail – Sheboygan. Take a ride on the historic side! In the mid-1800s wooden planks were laid down to create all-weather roads to accommodate the flood of immigrants heading west. The Old Plank Road Trail parallels Hwy. 23 which is the original plank road route. The trail is 17 miles and is an American Planning Association award-winning trail used by bicyclists, runners, walkers, in-line skaters, horseback riders, moped users, skiers and more!
