Chili is a feel-good fall staple! This recipe requires minimal effort but produces maximum flavors that will satisfy the whole family.

Ingredients:

3 lbs ground beef or ground turkey
1 large onion – chopped
1 green pepper
1 16 oz can dark kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 16 oz can light kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 29 oz can tomato puree
1 16 oz jar of mild salsa
1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
1 14.5 oz beef broth
1 cup water
¼ cup chili powder
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper

For an extra flavor profile add 2 tablespoons of your favorite steak sauce.

Brown your meat and strain the grease. Add a tablespoon olive oil to the pot and let cook for 5 minutes on low. Add meat and dry seasonings and stir. Add all other ingredients and stir thoroughly. Let simmer on medium-low heat and stir occasionally. After 30 minutes turn the burner off and let sit for 10 minutes so flavors fuse together.

Serve over macaroni noodles and garnish with some Wisconsin cheddar cheese and sour cream for an authentic Midwestern take.

This recipe makes plenty, and freezes well. So stash some away for a future cozy day in.

Enjoy!
