It’s a new year and for many that means making New Year’s Resolutions.

If you’re one of the many who made one or several New Year’s Resolutions, here area few tips to help you keep them throughout the year.

  • Focus on one major goal and make sure it is attainable and realistic. Make a commitment you have a good chance of keeping.
  • Write your plan down and keep it in a place where you can see it daily. This serves as a positive reminder and can keep you from straying.
  • Rewards are important. They bring back the excitement of our progress towards our goals. The best way to reward yourself is with something that complements your goal. For example, if like many people you want to drop a few pounds, reward yourself with a new shirt rather than ice cream.
  • A support system can be vital in keeping your resolutions and holding you accountable. It can also help motivate you to reach success. Having a friend going through the same ups and downs makes it easier to not give up.
  • Nothing happens overnight. It takes time to build a habit into your life. Don’t give up because you’ve had an off day or week. A resolution doesn’t have to start just on New Year’s Day. Simply start over. The longer you stick with your goal, the better you will feel and the easier it will become.
