Vive La France – Celebrate Bastille Days in Milwaukee This Weekend

The largest French festival in North America opens in Milwaukee July 12-15 to honor France’s Independence Day. Bastille Days, located in Cathedral Square Park, is celebrating its 31st anniversary. It occupies eight city blocks with four stages, and is renowned for impromptu street performers, roaming minstrels, a variety of interactive and musical entertainment.

Opening night features the annual Storm the Bastille 5k run and walk, where over 5,000 people flood the streets after dark to re-enact the storming of the Bastille.  New for 2012, Friday night features a Mardi Gras-themed happy hour from 5-7, where festival attendees can expect to find themed drinks, impromptu parades and plenty of beads.

Other weekend activities include the Pooch Parade on Saturday, July 14 at 11:30am and the famous Waiter/Waitress Races on Sunday, July 15 at 3:30.  Returning for its second year in 2012 is the popular ticketed wine tastings on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are available now for presale, as well as on the day-of (if available).
